Sealed central heating systems are similar to unvented hot water systems. Water expansion is taken up by an expansion vessel, therefore removing the necessity of having a feed and expansion cistern. The benefits of a seal cistern include:

• Higher water temperatures, giving faster system heat up times.

• Sealed system so less corrosion and less problems with trapped air.

• No feed and expansion cistern required.

Sealed systems do require regular maintenance, which can be carried out as part of an annual boiler service.

Also some older boilers may not be compatible with this type of system.
